Would you walk over hot coals as part of your job?

31 March 2009

The article appears in the Newsletter of Hastings Hotels, after a number of members of staff took part in "What really is (im)possible"?

Would you walk over hot coals as part of your job?

Well, that's exactly what our Events Managers at Hastings Hotels did recently.

Supported by Aileen Martin and Allyson McKimm who had already completed this course, Slieve Donard Human Resources Manager, Sharon Glover and Events Managers from the hotels, completed a course called "What really is (im)possible?" held at the Stormont Hotel, Belfast.

The event was no publicity stunt - as each of the Managers walked across burning coals at 1100 F. It was the culmination of a one day seminar run by motivational coach, Bryan Dunlop who trains attendees that by changing the way we think about challenges and problems, anything is possible. He proves the power of positive thinking by confronting one of our natural fears: fire. All of the Managers walked across a 10ft bed of burning coals and through the day's coaching, are shown how to complete this challenge with a focused and positive state of mind.

Senior Events Manager at the Ballygally Castle Hotel, Cathy Scott said "that was the most exciting and invigorating course I've been on - I never throught I'd be walking across hot coals and I've got the photo on my mantlepiece to prove it!"

Allyson McKimm, Events Drector said "I would thoroughly recommend this course to anyone - Bryan keeps the day lively and holds your interest throughout with all sorts of techniques from portrait drawing, jugglingballs and lots of new and innovative presentation skills".
